BizWord April 2010
Letter from the Chairman of the
Board
Hello Fellow Chamber Members,
This month I want to remind
you of and endorse some of the new programs the Chamber has started for our
benefit. Both of these programs reach out to the consumers of your products and
services.
Ask the Expert
is one of the newer endeavors. It utilizes technology to promote business and
consumer referrals. Anyone can visit the Chamber website and ask a question and
our business Member
Experts
will provide insightful answers. The program promotes you as an
Expert
in your field.
Another direct outreach to
the Downers Grove community is
BUY CHAMBER.
Let me go into detail about the BUY
CHAMBER program.
BUY CHAMBER
connects your business to the community and area businesses, providing
the support you need for success.
You decide how to reward
consumers of your products and services to show how
BUY CHAMBER
customers are appreciated.
The program is simple, when a
customer presents the
BUY CHAMBER card
at a participating business, they receive your designated discount. This is
your opportunity to say, ‘Thank you for your business!’
All participating businesses
and their discounts will be displayed on downersgrove.org
BUY CHAMBER is a
great opportunity to promote your business. The Chamber is promoting this
program on their website and through the local press.
In summary, if you do
business in the Downers Grove area, you should participate in both the
Ask the Expert
Program and the BUY
CHAMBER Program. Use the Chamber's resources to help you become successful.
Your Chairman of the Board,
Don Duncan

Have you posted the “Proud Member” logo on your website?
Do you display your Membership decal on your door or car window?
Have you attended a Business Roundtable Network or Business After Hours lately?
If you answered “no” to any one of these
questions, then you need to “SPRING into Your Membership” and get back to the
basics! A wide variety of benefits, opportunities and services are available to
YOU as part of your Membership. Getting back to basics can be as easy as posting
a money savings coupon on
www.downersgrove.org,
getting your business involved in BUY CHAMBER or just attending one of the many
monthly events. These are the building blocks to growing your business and
gaining more exposure!
Francine Myers, Community Relations Director for
Saratoga Grove Retirement Community, developed a great working
relationship with a Chamber Member through the Health & Wellness Expo held in
January. “Eye Care Associates/Dr. Jison and staff where part of our Health
Fair. He is now working with Saratoga Grove to bring eye care to our residents
on a regular basis and it was because of the Health & Wellness Expo that I was
able to make the connection.” You just never know what kind of connections
you will make at an event or through your website listing.
www.downersgrove.org
is a great resource to view all your benefits, opportunities and services. Click
on “About the Chamber” then click on “Member Benefits” to see the plethora of
options. I challenge you to try one benefit, opportunity or service you have
never tried before. Try it within the next 30 days and see where it takes your
business. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact me or any
one of the Chamber staff. We are here to help!
Make a commitment! Utilize your Membership! See your business grow!

Did you Miss the White Sox Auction on
last Monday?
Thanks to the generous donation by the Maclyn
Group, the Chamber was able to auction 2 sets of tickets to last week's games on
Wednesday and Thursday. This is a great way to offer valuable deals to our
Members as well as fundraise. If you have any donations/deals to contribute to
Make It Mine on Monday just let us know! This week's offer is a DG Chamber Golf
Shirt!
Every Monday the BizWord will feature a limited
availability offer! This is different from a coupon or discount! Be sure to
watch out for Make It Mine on Monday-BUY CHAMBER Weekly Deal!

What is "Make it Mine on Monday?"
Make It Mine on Monday is a special BUY CHAMBER weekly
deal extended to Chamber Members from Monday to Friday. Each week the deal is
different it may be from the Chamber, it may be an auction item or (even better)
a deal offered by YOUR business! The past two weeks the Make It Mine on Monday
program has featured a White Sox Ticket Auction and Downers Grove Chamber Golf
Shirts!
When your business participates, the program mutually
benefits you and the Chamber. Here are some specifics on the program! Please
email
Lauren if you are interested in participating
or learning more!
Here's how it works
1.
Sign-up, give us a call at (630)
968-4050
2. Give us some ideas about
your proposed offer and we'll do the rest.
3. We create your offer page.
Then we launch it in BizWord on an agreed upon date (Monday).
4. Customers purchase your
offer, but their cards are not charged until the required number of customers
(set by you) have purchased. (example- 5 deals must be sold in order for
promotion to take effect).
5. Get
paid! We process all the transactions and mail you a check, minus our
commission. Customers are emailed a certificate for the "deal" they purchased.
6.
Vouchers are redeemed at your business.
Make It Mine on Monday FAQS
1. Is this
free for me as business owner?
Yes! We
make money by taking a percentage of the sales generated. So there is no risk
for you and your business.
2.What type of deal should I put together?
We find
that the more exclusive the deal, the faster it spreads. So we suggest at least
a 50% discount.
3. How do
buyers redeem the offer they purchase?
Buyers will receive an email certificate from us
that can be redeemed at your location.
3. When do
I get paid?
We take a percentage of the gross sales from the
day we run the offer and send you the rest.
4. I'm concerned about discounting my product or
service.
Look at it as an acquisition cost. A 'deal'
helps you acquire new customers, win back old customers, and sometimes reward
existing customers. The discount provided will help spread the word about your
business as well as get people to BUY CHAMBER!
