BizWord June 2009
The Downers Grove Chamber’s primary focus the past twelve
months has been to BUILD BUSINESS, while we BUILD COMMUNITY. It is essential to
Downers Grove that you continue to succeed and your Chamber has been focusing
all their efforts to make sure that happens.
As you know, we’ve introduced a new website, the all new
downersgrove.org will make sure your
business is connected to the community and the community is connected to you.
With an all new look, your testimonials will be featured and linked to your
business’ website and the Talking Business Card video clip commercials will all
further your presence on this community portal – no matter your schedule – we’ll
be working for you.
Speaking of working for you, at the Black & White Ball,
we’ll be recognizing a special Member who has gone above and beyond in making
sure this community works. The winner of the Enterprise Award will be
honored at the Friday, September 18th Black and White Ball.
In this challenging economic time, it is more important
than ever to recognize those businesses that keep and expand the workforce of
our community as well as offer opportunities for visitors to spend their dollars
in your businesses.
The recipient of this award is an individual who is
employed by or owns a Member business and has significantly impacted the
community through personal involvement, while actively providing and protecting
economic opportunity for the benefit of all. Last year we recognized David Fox,
president & CEO of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. At a recent general
membership luncheon, Dave said, "Leaders push those they lead to deliver more
than they think they are capable of producing."
Does this sound like anyone you know? Nominations are open
now, with the vast pool of business leaders’ names available to submit, I am
confident that the next winner will be a dynamic individual who helps to keep
this community working, building business while building community. Please
visit downersgrove.org to submit your
nomination. As always, thank you for your membership.

Board of Directors Nominations Open June 1
Have you ever sat at a Chamber event or committee meeting and thought to
yourself ‘if I were making the decisions, I would do it this way?’ Well
now is your opportunity… Consider becoming a part of the Board of Directors of
the Chamber. Take your Membership to the next level and lend your voice to the
business community. Make a difference.
Not sure that board leadership is the right fit for you?
Here’s what you need: an open-mind, the ability to think strategically, and the
time to attend 2 board related meetings a month. Our board members come in all
shapes and sizes. Some participate financially; some participate by appearing at
monthly events; some participate by providing their work skills in a leadership
capacity. The bottom line is that there is not a “typical” board member. The
board thrives off of diversification.
We are looking for Members to step up and join this influential group.
There are several spots available for Members eager to represent their
businesses and provide their experience. We encourage you to consider a
Director position. The first step is to fill out and return the Nomination
Form. The Nomination Committee will select candidates, set up interviews,
and determine final candidates.
You can find the links to the Board Nomination Form and Board of Director's Job
Description below.

"We had a wonderful time at the golf outing – quick story
about how that outing effected my company. We met somebody from Best
Buy, turns out they were looking for a delivery service in the Chicagoland
area on a pilot program to offer same day delivery. Last Thursday we were
able to secure a meeting with them and while we were one of many delivery
services being considered, we just received word that they chose ERC.
This would not have been possible without the Downers Grove Chamber and the golf
outing. What a great team effort!"
