Downtown Downers Grove is the "IN" place to shop and dine. Downtown Downers Grove provides 20 different restaurants and delis as well as a variety of more than 50 shops, sidewalk cafes, quaint shops and pedestrian friendly places invite people to linger and enjoy the warm hometown charm that has been a trademark of the Village for decades. In 2001, the Village completely renovated its
downtown, winning the "National Award for Historic Restoration/Preservation" from the American Public Works Association. Century old infrastructure was replaced with new storm and sanitary sewers, water mains and underground utilities. Other improvements included new sidewalks, streets, signage, park benches, landscaping, 119 trees and 215 streetlights. The Train Station Plaza received a new fountain, park benches, landscaping and historic clock. The 1856 historic Main Street Cemetery, located in the heart of the downtown, received new walls, benches, fencing and landscaping.
